Just want to thank all of you who supported me in the election this week and there were nearly 4000 of you who did.
The result was a surprise and a disappointment but that goes with the territory and I accept that.
I hope to keep involved with the Sports Tourism initiative in Huntsville in some way. First some time off in Florida, then Christmas and then we will make some decisions.
To the supportive staff at the Town, you are wonderful friends and supporters and I will miss our daily contact..
To the new council I wish you all the best and know that you will do what is best for the town.
At the end of the day the important thing is to be able to look at yourself in the mirror and feel good…. and I am able to do that.. I also appreciate the opportunity to have been part of the process and have had input into the decision making process for 10 years.
Thanks again.
Well here we are… First day of voting. As you may have noticed the telephone number in the second mailing of your pin number, was missing.
It is 1-888-357-1385.
To vote by phone, call that number and follow the prompts.
Any problem call me. I number is 788-0284.
Well we can start voting tomorrow at 9am. IF you haven’t received your second set of pin numbers yet let me know. If you haven’t got any pin numbers get in touch with Town Hall.
IF you have any questions or need any assistance call me…
Most importantly…please participate in the election and yes I would appreciate your support for District Council
Have a great day…
Just want to say thank you to those who took the time to come to the Algonquin Theatre last night for the Councillors Candidates debate or forum.
Also to those of you who watched at home, I hope it was informative.
What was apparent last night that we have a good array of candidates who have come forward this year and we really do have an election.
I trust you will continue to support me in my bid for a fourth term, second as District Councillor. I want to be your Huntsville representative at District and have another term on Huntsville council to responsibly take advantage of the many opportunities created by the G8. There are many investments and now we must go after the return on those investments…
If you have any questions about the new method of voting or need any other assistance or have any comments, just click on the comments section of the blog and we will be there to help you.
Thanks again for your interest last night.
Here is the press release regarding the pin number problem..
Subject: Date:
IMPORTANT – VOTER INFORMATION LETTERS
Friday, October 8, 2010
PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, October 7, 2010 it was brought to the attention of the Returning Officer for the Town of Huntsville Municipal Election that a problem occurred with some of the Voter Information Letters that were mailed out the week of October 4, 2010.
The Town of Huntsville was advised by the company retained to conduct the electronic voting method for the 2010 Municipal Election, Intelivote Systems Inc., that the information letters were folded by a subcontractor using an incorrect folding method, a “C“ fold rather than a “Z” fold. The resulting fold did not adequately obscure the PIN when it was inserted in the envelope, as is required when mailing out confidential information in this format.
This error was reported by the Election Official of the Town of Huntsville to Intelivote Systems Inc., and the changes and re-mailing are being made at the Town’s direction and at no additional cost to the Town of Huntsville.
The personal identification numbers contained within the original circulation have been disabled and replacement Voter Information Letters will be mailed out by the end of the day, Friday, October 8, 2010.
If you do not receive a new Voter Information Letter by Monday, October 18 please contact the Voter Help/Revision Centre located in the Huntsville Civic Centre, Partners Hall – 37 Main Street East, Huntsville at 705-789-1751 or 1-888-696-4255.
Municipal Clerk/Returning Officer Kathleen Gilchrist
Most of you have received your pin numbers for voting on line or telephone… Those pin numbers are being replaced and have been disabled. Your new ones will be in the mail to you next week.
The fault lies with a subcontractor to the company running the on line voting. They folded the letters improperly and some pin numbers were visible through the envelope when held to the light…
They will all be resent and only the new numbers will work.
The town and Intelivote are not responsible. It is the subcontractor..
and the subcontractor will be paying for the extra expense.
Any questions call or email me….
We got our pin numbers in the mail today. You should have yours as well. IF you still have questions please let me know and we can help you.
You can vote this year by either internet or telephone….no paper ballots…. However, you can go to town hall and get help if you don’t have a computer or don’t understand the process.
You will be getting a pin number next week that will be the number you will use to vote. Oct 18-25th.
You can get more information at town hall. There are friendly staff who will help you and hand out materials. Those are available now.
If you need other assistance we will be glad to help as well. Email young@surenet.net or phone me 788-0284 for that information.
Knocking of doors this week there is concern about the condition of Hutcheson Beach. I would welcome general comments about your experience using that facility and thoughts for its future.
One thought has been to perhaps dredge a section for a boat ramp and use offered volunteer assistance to keep up the cleanliness of the beach.
If not up to scratch then we need to do better.
WEll turned out to be quite a night at council last night. Finally signing the lease agreement with U. of Waterloo, a five year deal that everyone expects will be ongoing.
Unfortunately that positive moment was tempered a short time later when Sharon Stinson came to council pleading for help after encountering problems with her well. She had documentation claiming it was the result of the blasting at Conroy Park…. and it is hard to not beleive that…. No problems for 37 years and suddenly her water pressure was reduced and later sand coming into the house into her toilets, washing maching, dishwasher etc…
We had a discussion under new business about the problem and staff has been instructed to get on the backs of the insurance adjuster and get this thing resolved. That was after we were told that any payment by the town would jeopardize our chances of an insurance settlement.
My point was that we need to make this right with Sharon. Put time lines on the insurance adjuster… No one has seen one at the site yet… If not resolved before next council we will have a resolution saying that council needs to pay for the damages. We are talking 30-35 thousand dollars….But if Sharon decided to sue the town that could be much much more…
And that’s the way it was left…
We have a responsibility I feel to this resident, we have a process that should have been completed by now but will give another three weeks, and if not then we will have another discussion about handling it in another way…
